The Engineering Council Postgraduate Diploma

You can gain entry to the Postgraduate Diploma by:

• gaining the Engineering Council Graduate Diploma
• a BEng(Hons) degree course accredited by a professional UK institution;
• an exemption through an Individual Case Procedure carried out by your professional institution;
• applying for consideration to be given to your current qualification which is deemed to be equivalent to a UK engineering degree (three year) by the Engineering Council Examinations Department.

The Engineering Council Matching Section is the Engineering Council Postgraduate Diploma. For the award of the Postgraduate Diploma you are required to pass:

• one compulsory unit in Advanced Engineering Analysis
• one unit in a technical area (chosen from 5 available units)
• two further units chosen from the Graduate Diploma List, which must not be units which have been attempted before
• a Project Report, which demonstrates the principles inherent in working in a group, including the management aspects of a project.

Candidates aspiring to CEng registration may need to undertake further study as outlined in UK SPEC. The Engineering Council Postgraduate Diploma is the Engineering Council Examinations further learning to MEng standard

• Candidates may repeat units as many times as necessary in order to qualify for the Engineering Council Postgraduate Diploma, but failure may be noted to the professional engineering institution and in some circumstances may count against an application for professional registration when they apply for Chartered status.
• Professional institutions may, in certain circumstances, impose time constraints on the time taken to complete the Postgraduate Diploma.
• The Postgraduate Diploma will only be awarded to candidates who fulfil the full requirements as specified above.
